Gazeta dos Caminhos de Ferro (Railway gazette)

Founded by a railway worker, the Gazette always looked after the interests of Portuguese railways.

People considered the Gazettem which covered railway in Portugal and Spain (1888-1969) an “evolution” of the collaboration that Leonildo Mendonça e Costa had maintained since 1884 with the 'Gaceta' published in Spain. its director stated in the first issue that, given the “growth that our railways are undergoing”, the most distinguished Portuguese engineers would deal with “matters of such importance to the country” there.

A fortnightly publication, whose premise was to be “a repository of all official laws and provisions published on Portuguese railways, which will be of great help to the history of our accelerated railways”, the Gazette is an essential reference for information on the technical evolution of the transport sector and its importance for the country’s socio-economic development.
