CP Team

A team of qualified, experienced, and dedicated professionals.

Where we are

Our work places.

CP covers the whole of Portugal, up and down the country.

The CP support services are essential to ensure the efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort, as well as maintaining the operability of our network.

These services cover a wide range of areas — from finance to marketing, property management, and even information systems.

Most of these areas are based mainly in Greater Lisbon, Entroncamento, and Porto.

The Operations area plays a crucial role in ensuring that our trains provide an efficient, sustainable and environmentally responsible service. Our daily activities are diverse and challenging, including:

  • Train driving;
  • Technical timetable planning and management;
  • Planning of rolling stock crew schedules;
  • Rolling stock, engine and trailer rotation planning;
  • Monitoring and supervising rail traffic;
  • Preparing operational studies to optimise production models and create new service solutions.

This team is the driving force that puts our trains at the country's service, promoting mobility and social and territorial cohesion. We strive to ensure the regularity, punctuality and quality of our services, with an unwavering commitment to safety in all our operations.
We have two Operations Centres (Lisbon and Porto), eight depots and four traction stations, and our network covers the entire country, ensuring the efficient management of rolling stock personnel.

The sales area carries out comprehensive and complex work, aiming to provide a quality service and a mobility experience that is efficient, comfortable and tailored to every need. Customer satisfaction is our greatest motivation, and every action we take is aimed at ensuring that those who choose CP, whether for leisure, work or daily travel, have a memorable experience.

Whether in ticket sales, ticket inspection, new product development or rail traffic monitoring, our team is focused on providing a service that meets passengers' needs, promoting efficiency and comfort on every journey.

The sales sector is an essential part of the driving force that puts our trains at the service of the country. Committed to providing a sustainable, integrated and efficient service, we work to promote territorial cohesion, ensuring the regularity, punctuality and quality of our services. We operate in an open market, attentive to our passengers' needs.

With more than 110 stations and points of sale across the national rail network, we run around 1,300 trains daily, managing rolling stock personnel from 25 depots distributed throughout the country. These spaces play a fundamental role in our relationship with our passengers, as they are the main points for passengers to get on and off the trains.

Maintenance and Engineering believe that the impossible is just a challenge waiting to be overcome. What drives us is transforming obstacles into innovative solutions, making the unthinkable a reality.

With more than 1,150 employees, we ensure that we maintain and repair the rolling stock under the maintenance cycles and quality plans for each series and as defined in the quality, environment and safety policies, promoting a culture of continuous improvement in processes and working methods, developing ingenious projects and innovative solutions to respond to the challenges of the railway.

In addition to maintaining our fleet, which currently has 471 units corresponding to 1,030 vehicles.

A Vehicle is a single, individual component of a train, such as a carriage, locomotive, or carriage-like unit. It can be a passenger car, freight wagon, or engine. In contrast, a unit typically refers to a set of vehicles that are assembled and operated together as a single operational entity. For example, a "train unit" might be a multiple-unit train consisting of several trailers and motors that are permanently coupled and controlled as a single unit

Our fleet continues to grow as we work to recover rolling stock that operators had taken out of commercial service. We provide specialised services to third parties, reinforcing our role as a benchmark in railway engineering both nationally and internationally.

We divide our activity into six complementary areas:

  • Maintenance and Repair of Rolling Stock – We guarantee the operation and suitability of trains in daily service, ensuring their reliability and safety. We extend the useful life of rolling stock, restoring its potential and modernising its systems during major repairs, as well as ensuring the preservation of railway equipment of historical interest.
  • Responsible for Maintenance certified under Regulation (EU) 2019/779 since 2022 (an average of 19,000 first-level interventions and 40 second-level interventions per year).
  • Repair of rolling stock.
  • Prepare technical specifications and supervise the acquisition of new rolling stock and on-board systems.
  • Engineering and modifications to rolling stock.
  • Re-engineering of obsolete electronic systems.
  • Industrial Maintenance Areas – We ensure the workshop equipment and facilities used for maintenance and engineering are available, reliable, and safe to use.
  • Cleaning, Overhaul, and Shunting of Rolling Stock – We take care of cleaning and shunting, train formation and deformation, and CP’s rolling stock.
  • Provision of Emergency Composition Service on the network.
  • Provision of Services to Other Entities in the Railway Sector.

ME is also responsible for railway manoeuvres, train formation and deformation, as well as the overhaul and cleaning of CP rolling stock.

We have depots in Algueirão, Campolide, Carcavelos, Coimbra, Contumil, Entroncamento, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Santa Apolónia, Sernada do Vouga and Vila Real de Santo António.
