CP signs addendum to Alstom-DST contract

36 new multiple units bolster CP's modernisation

CP – Comboios de Portugal has signed an addendum to the rolling stock purchase contract with the Alstom-DST consortium, which increases the investment by €318 million and allows for the acquisition of 36 more electric multiple units for urban service.

These 36 new units are over and above the 117 multiple unitsalready provided for in the base contract, which includes 55 trains for regional service and 62 for urban service, corresponding to an initial investment of €746 million. In addition to increasing the fleet, the addendum also brings forward the delivery of the last railcar to 2031, shortening the previously planned 2033 deadline.

The new trains, which are expected to arrive in Portugal in 2029, will also be produced domestically, as the contract includes the creation of a workshop in Matosinhos. This infrastructure will generate around 300 direct jobs, thereby developing professional skills and strengthening the country's railway industry.

The addendum means the overall investment rises to €1.064 billion, significantly strengthening the Company's fleet capacity and modernisation process.

CP continues its commitment to more modern, sustainable and inclusive mobility, reinforcing citizens' confidence in public transport and contributing to territorial cohesion and climate transition.
