Museum of Transport and Communication

Sitting on the banks of the River Douro, next to Porto's historic area recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Museum of Transport and Communications (MTC) occupies the historic Alfândega Nova do Porto building, one of the city's most emblematic buildings. Its proximity to the Ribeira area, the Palácio da Bolsa and the century-old Luís I and D. Maria bridges, among other monuments, place the museum on the city's must-see tourist routes.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum also has temporary outdoor exhibitions, activities for families and groups, and workshops.

The Museum of Transport and Communications is just over a kilometre, about a 15-minute walk from the São Bento Porto station - recommended connection via the pedestrian Rua das Flores.

Museum opening hours

Tuesday to Friday - from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. (admission until noon) and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (admission until 5 p.m.);
Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays - from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (admission until 6 p.m.).

The museum is closed on Mondays, 1 January, Easter Sunday, 24 June and 25 December.

Porto Urban Trains

Special €3 return ticket for each member of the group (minimum 10 members);
Journeys on any day of the week. Weekends without time restrictions, weekdays except for some rush hour trains (contact the group service for more information);
Booking required with the group service at least 5 working days;
Payment (train journey + museum visit) is made at Porto urban train ticket offices.
These discounts apply to the scheduled Porto urban train service.

Alfa Pendular/Intercidades/Regional and InterRegional

The price varies depending on the number of people, the date, time, route and type of service, regular or special, of the desired journey, for a minimum of 10 people;
The booking request and payment must be made 10 days in advance.
