Douro Historical Train

A journey through time. The Douro Historical Train runs between June and October.

Travelling on the Douro Historical Train is like taking a journey back in time. On a route along the banks of the River Douro, the five historic carriages, hauled by a diesel locomotive painted in its original colours, cover the distance from Régua to Tua, on a journey into the past marked by the beauty of the landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Itinerary

Outbound

15:00: Reception and welcome for passengers on the Douro Historical Train at Régua Station, where a glass of ‘Porto Ferreira’ Port will be waiting for them, accompanied by regional entertainment;

15:32: Departure from Régua to Tua with music and traditional local songs;

16:35: Arrival in Tua, where passengers can relax, admire the scenery and visit the exhibition of regional products by local producers, where they can buy and sample items.

Return

17:07: Departure from Tua, with complimentary water and regional products served on board;

17:25: Stop at Pinhão Station, where passengers can admire the famous tile panels decorating the station walls, depicting the landscape and the lives of the people of the Douro region, with images of Porto production, the grape harvest and the transport of wine in typical ‘rabelo’ boats. They can also visit the Wine House in the station building, and purchase typical local products;

18:22: Arrival at Régua.

Note: Although the ticket only shows information about the outward journey, the ticket is valid for the return journey in the same carriage and seat.

 

Porto Campanhã car park - (underground car park located next to the station’s main entrance) - Douro Historical Train passengers get a discounted rate upon presentation of their ticket. To claim the discount, payment must be made at the manual payment counter. (Does not apply to the car park at Campanhã Intermodal Terminal).

Vale do Tua interpretation centre – 50% off tickets, with the following prices:

  • Adults and children over 10 years old – €1.00;
  • Children under 10 years old go free.
  • Tickets for this train are only valid for the day and route for which they were issued;
  • Tickets for the Historical Train cannot be exchanged or refunded;
  • If journeys are cancelled by CP, customers will be refunded in full.
