Terms and Conditions of CP App

Get to know the purchase conditions, discounts and other benefits of the CP App.

With the CP App you can get your ticket for the Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Regional, InterRegional, Coimbra Urban Trains and an add-on to a journey on the Oporto Urban Trains, up to 60 days in advance or just 15 minutes before the train departs from its departing station. You have to be registered on myCP to make a purchase. If you are not registered, you can create an account at any time.

Once you have bought your ticket you can see:

  • the PDF sent by email;
  • the digital ticket that is available in “Your tickets” area of the App;
  • the digital ticket that is available in “journey history” in myCP, at cp.pt.

All options include the details needed for your journey. The tickets purchased online are personal and non-transferable and they are only valid for the chosen day(s) and trains. If the Customer needs to use another train, the ticket must be reissued in accordance with the foreseen conditions.

On board the train, you have to prove your identity using the ID document you mentioned when you bought your ticket. On the Oporto urban trains, you also have to show a printed or digital copy of your ticket.  If you have a discount ticket, you must present a valid document granting you that right (if the discount is because of your age you can show an official identification document or a certified copy of it). Otherwise, and in cases where the ticket has been changed or refunded, you are considered to be travelling without a valid ticket and can be fined (Law 28/06 of 4 July).

Passengers who buy tickets to or from Porto-Campanhã, Coimbra-B and Lisbon Oriente, can use the respective urban trains free of charge to get to Porto São Bento, Coimbra Cidade, Lisbon Santa Apolónia, Areeiro, Entrecampos and Sete Rios. Passengers travelling between Lisbon and Faro and who start or end their journey at Pinhal Novo station can use the Lisbon urban trains along the entire length of the Sado line.

In these situations, the tickets are only valid for an hour before the main line train leaves and an hours after it arrives.

In the purchase process, you have 15 minutes to conclude your transaction. You must give the type and number of ID document for each passenger, so you can locate your reservations on board.

For tax purposes, the pdf ticket serves as a receipt. If you do not complete the Name/Company name and Tax number fields, the ticket will be issued with “Final Consumer” as the default setting in the tax field. Once the ticket has been issued, in the first 30 minutes after it has been bought and up until 15 minutes before the train leaves from the station where the customer gets on, all the travel conditions can be changed once including altering or correcting the tax number.

Reduced Mobility Customers requiring help while boarding and disembarking the train should consult the SIM – Integrated Mobility Service – Procedure Manual and the list of stations with SIM for Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters. They should also make sure to book the SIM.

The reading of these terms and Conditions supposes you accept them. If you do not agree you can uninstall the CP App at any time.

Paying by PayPal lets you activate the option that authorises CP to process future purchases without needing to be redirected to PayPal for authentication, saving you time in the checkout process. Once activated, you can cancel this option at any time, by removing the tick mark on the option or eliminating it when it is active. The activation or cancellation process is done during the purchase process at the payment phase.

3-D Secure – what changes in online purchases

When you buy a ticket from the CP Online Ticket Office, in the CP site or the App, using Visa or Mastercard, you are making a transaction with 3-D Secure.

The 3-D Secure protocol provides the highest level of security for online shopping since it ensures at the moment of the transaction that you are responsible for the payment and the legitimate holder of the card that is being used in the online purchase.

A bank form appears at the purchase phase where you have to introduce the bank card details and the authentication credentials that only the card holder knows.

Most Portuguese banks send their clients SMS codes so they can authenticate the transaction they are making.

If your bank card is not associated with 3-D Secure, you may find your Visa and Mastercard cards are rejected.

If you want to join and know more about what authentication to use in your online shopping, contact your bank.

If you want to get a refund, exchange or alter the name of the ticket holder of tickets bought using the CP App, please check the Terms and Conditions of the Online Ticket Office in the “Buy Tickets” area in cp.pt, since the same rules apply for these operations. If you want to access any of these options you have to access the journey details in “Your Tickets” area, on cp.pt

Bicycles can be carried on all Intercidades:

  • Northern line (Lisbon – Porto / Braga / Guimarães), Beira Alta, Beira Baixa line, Alentejo (Lisbon Oriente / Évora) and Sul > Only 1 bike per passenger in the 2nd class carriages. Each carriage has space for 2 bikes.
