Free passes for pupils - U18+TP and Students U23+TP

As of 1 January 2024, students aged 4 up to and including 23 years old can get a free pass for use on CP urban trains (Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon) and regional services.

All young students can use these passes:

  • 4 to 18 year olds (until the last day of the month in which they turn 19) do not need to provide proof of enrolment in an educational unit.
  • 19 to 23 years old (until the last day of the month in which they turn 24), upon annual presentation of proof of enrolment in a national education unit.
  • up to and including the age of 24, students attending courses with an integrated study cycle, namely Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, upon annual presentation of proof of enrolment at a national education unit.

Passengers who already have 4_18 and U23 passes can top them up free of charge exclusively at the ticket offices.

New passengers must request the card to be issued, paying the cost of the card and presenting the following documents:

  • From 4 to 18 years old - Official document proving age and a photograph.
  • From 19 to 24 years old - Official proof of age, photograph and proof of enrolment in a school. This condition must be renewed annually.

Each young person can only apply for one free pass and cannot benefit from more than one pass at the same time:

  • a Metropolitan Area;
  • an Intermunicipal Community;
  • a Metropolitan Area adjoining an Intermunicipal Community or two adjoining Intermunicipal Communities, proving that you live and study in neighbouring regions. Proof of residence can be obtained from the Tax Authority website.
