Project to build a Portuguese train

The Innovation Pact "PRODUCING RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK IN PORTUGAL" aims to contribute to the diversification and complexity of the productive structure and specialisation profile of the Portuguese economy. To achieve this, it proposes, through the horizontal integration of various companies specialising in different areas of expertise and supported by a broad national consortium, to develop the construction of 3 types of carriages to produce an innovative and highly desirable "Portuguese train".

By promoting research, business innovation and cooperation, the aim is to enable the national industry to respond to the growing demand for railway rolling stock since the train is the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transport. The Innovation Pact is aligned with the European Union's commitments in terms of mobility policies and with the changes in transport strategy taking place around the world.

The Innovation Pact is divided into 9 Work Packages, and its beneficiary organisations are:

  • SERMEC II - Indústria, Comércio e Serviço;
  • INEGI - Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial;
  • FIBRAUTO - Fabrico de Objetos em Polyester Lda;
  • CP - Comboios de Portugal, EPE;
  • AIMMAP - Associação dos Industriais Metalúrgicos, Metalomecanicos e Afins de Portugal;
  • Centro de Apoio Tecnológico à Indústria Metalomecânica;
  • NSS - New Sign Solutions, Desenvolvimento de Sistemas Electrónicos Lda;
  • BUSRAIL - Desenvolvimento e Montagem de Componentes para Transportes, Lda;
  • NOMAD TECH, Lda;
  • Universidade do Porto;
  • SUNVIAUTO - Indústria de Componentes de Automóveis S.A.;
  • PFP- Associação da Plataforma Ferroviária Portuguesa;
  • CCF - Associação Centro de Competências Ferroviário.
