Historical Train returns to Douro – From June 2

Until the end of October, CP – Comboios de Portugal invites you to relive the past with a trip through the Douro River banks….

… on a unique train from the time of our grandparents, composed of an engine and five historical wooden carriages from the early 20th century.

The trips occur every Saturday and Sunday from June 2, between Régua and Tua, also stopping at the beautiful village of Pinhão.

Exceptionally, until the beginning of July, the train will operate with a diesel engine from the 1960s, which preserves its original features. From then on, and until the end of October, the traction will be made by the charming steam locomotive built in 1925 by Henschel & Son.

Passing through the unique landscape of Douro and its Vineyards, recognised as World Heritage by UNESCO, the Historical Train gives you the single opportunity to relive the romance of the railway of other times.

During the journey, a music group and local singers will entertain the passengers of the five carriages, who will also have the opportunity to taste the traditional sweets from Régua and Porto Wine.

The trip costs 42.50 euros for adults and 19 euros for children between four and twelve years old.

CP also has special tickets which combine the travel on the Historical Train with return tickets from several locations of the country to Régua, on Alfa Pendular (Turística Class), Intercidades (2nd class) or InterRegional and Regional trains.

These special offers are highly competitive, going from 47.50 euros for adults who depart from the stations north of Coimbra, up to 77.50 euros for those deciding to travel from Faro and return. As to the passengers travelling from Lisbon, the return ticket plus the Historical Train trip costs 57.50 euros. Children pay half the price in all routes.

The tickets can be bought from the CP ticket offices, CP online ticket office, through the Customer Care Line (National: 707 210 220; International: +351 707 210 220) and also from Travel Agencies. The groups (ten or more people) are liable to the discount for the adult tickets.
