CP increases Alfa Pendular services on Saturdays and public holidays
More Alfa Pendular services schedules and thousands more seats will be available from July.
To promote sustainable mobility and boost rail transport use in the country, CP – Comboios de Portugal will increase the number of Alfa Pendular trains on Saturdays and public holidays. The measure, which comes into effect on 5 July 2025 to provide more schedules and seats, responding to growing demand on the route between Lisbon and Porto and offering more alternatives to passengers who choose to travel quickly and conveniently between the country's two main cities.
CP remains attentive to the needs of its customers, adapting to market expectations by making adjustments to its services in line with changes in demand. As such, due to increased interest in travel during the morning period, it has decided to increase the frequency of Alfa Pendular trains.
From 5 July, on Saturdays and public holidays (excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day), there will be more services in both directions, Lisbon-Porto and Porto-Lisbon:
- AP 123 – Departing from Lisbon-Santa Apolónia Station at 9:00 a.m. and arriving at Porto-Campanhã at 11:48 a.m. Currently running from Monday to Friday, it will now also run on Saturdays and public holidays.
- AP 120 – Departing from Porto-Campanhã at 9:40 a.m. and arriving at Lisbon-Santa Apolónia at 12:30 p.m. Already running from Monday to Saturday, it will now also run on public holidays.
- AP 122 – Departing from Porto-Campanhã Station at 11:40 and arriving at Lisbon-Santa Apolónia at 14:30. It runs from Sunday to Friday (except public holidays) and will now also run on Saturdays.
With this increase in service, it is estimated that 126 more trips will be made annually on Alfa Pendular trains, providing almost 38,000 more seats.
The measure aims to attract even more passengers to CP's premium service. The Alfa Pendular train is operated by CP's 4000 series electric multiple units with active tilting and a maximum speed of 220 km/h. The units consist of six carriages and offer a total of 301 seats in two classes, Conforto and Turística.
This is yet another investment that CP is making to promote green, safe, and accessible mobility for the Portuguese people, highlighting the train as a viable alternative to individual transport. Travelling by train means choosing to be environmentally friendly and reducing your carbon footprint.
