Address: Largo dos Caminhos de Ferro 6350-203 Vilar Formoso
A parish of the county of Almeida, Vilar Formoso borders with Spain and is considered one of the main entrance points of the Beira region. Amongst the attractions is the Castelo Bom, overlooking the River Côa, at an altitude of 725 metres. Rebuilt in the13th and 14th centuries, this structure boasted great splendour in the 16th century when it had two walls enclosing it. Currently, only the Porta da Vila (Doorway to the Town), and the water-hole in the south prevail.
