How do I validate my Ticket or Pass?

On Lisbon and Porto urban trains, the validation of all tickets and passes (except the Green Rail Pass) is compulsory and simple: bring your ticket to the validation point (validators in the stations) and wait for the green light.

If a red light appears, the validation is incorrect. You'll hear a different sound, and you can read a message on the validator screen showing the reason.

If, when validating, you hold your card in front of the black circle for a few more seconds, the message will remain on the validator screen.

In stations with controlled access channels, validation is carried out when passing through the respective channels. 

If you don't validate your ticket, you will be subject to a fine, under Law 28/2006 of 4 July, as amended.
