4_18 and SUB23 passes

Students with the 4_18 profile, aged up to 18 and sub23, up to 23 inclusive, have the right to 25% or 60% off the normal price of a CP pass for the urban trains (in Oporto, Coimbra and Lisbon) and the regional service. Apart from the CP trains, you can also travel on the buses and boats, and even the municipal public transport covered by the 4_18@escola.tp and sub23@superior.tp services.

Pupils and students who are not covered by school transport systems and who also meet the following conditions:

  • pupils who benefit from School Social Acrtion Scale A – 60% off the price of a normal multi-operator or intermodal pass;
  • pupils who benefit from School Social Acrtion Scale B – 25% off the price of a normal multi-operator or intermodal pass;
  • pupils who are members of households where the average income does not exceed 1.2 times the Social Support Index Rate - 25% off the price of a normal multi-operator or intermodal pass;
  • children aged under 6, who are not enrolled in a school if they are part of a household where the average income does not exceed 1.2 times the Social Support Index Rate - 25% off the price of a normal multi-operator or intermodal pass.
  • Students aged up to 23 inclusive, who benefit from Higher Education Social Action Support - 60% off the price of a normal multi-operator or intermodal pass.
  • All higher education students aged up to 23 inclusive, who are not covered by the previous point get 25% off the price of monthly passes.

Primary and secondary students and higher education students:

  • declaration of enrolment issued by the education establishment, valid for the current school year (download the 4_18 and SUB23 forms here), that show whether you get School Social Action scale A or B or the Direct Higher Education Social Regime;
  • 1 original passport photograph;
  • original of the ID document: ID booklet, ID card/Citizen's card, Passport or residency authorisation;
  • completed copy of the 4_18  or SUB23 card application form, whenever necessary;
  • For the 4_18 pass if the average household income is less than 1.2 times the Social Support Index, you will also have to provide:
    • requisition for access to social scale + (download requisition form);
    • income declaration and respective settlement receipt, if applicable, for the most recent year pursuant to article 60 of the personal income tax code;
    • If you do not present the income statement and respective payment receipt, you will have to present the finance ministry declaration that dispenses with the need to present a declaration of household incomes, when applicable (issued less than 15 days previously);
    • when applicable, a declaration from the ministry of solidarity and social security identifying the members of the household of the applicant and then respective beneficiary of the welfare payments (issued less than 15 days previously);
    • photocopy of ID and the taxpayer card.

Minors aged under 6, not enrolled in a school:

  • original or a water, electricity not phone bill of the head of the parent or guardian or a document from the civil parish proving where the minor lives;
  • documents mentioned above proving the average income of the household.

For Coimbra urban trains, Regional and InterRegional trains, print and complete the form before going to the sales point.

All the duly completed documents must be handed in to one of the following locations:

Lisbon urban trains

  • If you are a new user request the card from a CP Lisbon urban ticket office with all the necessary documents.
  • Once you have delivered all the papers, it takes 10 working days to issue your card.
  • If you want to renew or alter your card profile, go to the  Customer Suport Office at Rossio or Cais do Sodré.

Oporto urban trains – CP ticket offices.

Your card will be issued once you deliver all the required documents.

Coimbra urban trains and regional trains – CP ticket offices

Once you have delivered all the papers, it takes 15 working days to issue your card.

The 4_18/SUB23 card is valid for up to 4 years, up until the end of the month when you turn 19 (for the 4_18) or 24 (for the SUB23).

In order to have access to the monthly 4_18/SUB23 pass, you have to load the card or buy a ticket at a CP ticket office showing your 4_18@escola.tp or SUB23@superior.tp card.

Regional, InterRegional and Coimbra Urban Train Services

Every year at the beginning of the school year, you have to present a new declaration from your school or college to keep your right to the 25% or 60% reduction.

For the Lisbon urban trains:

If you continue to be a beneficiary take your card, enrolment declaration, which states if you are covered by School Social Action (A or B) or by the direct Higher Education Social Action, or, is applicable, with the documents proving the household income, to the Customer Support Offices in Rossio or Cais do Sodré stations to renew your profile.

If you have a valid Lisboa Viva Card issued by CP but now have the right to a 4_18 or Sub23 card, you should present the necessary documents as mentioned previously to get the right to exchange the normal Lisboa Viva card for a 4_18 or Sub23 card for free at the Customer Assistance Offices in Rossio or Caís do Sodré stations.

The Customer Assistance Offices are open: Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00.

For the Oporto urban trains:

Take your card, valid enrolment declaration for the new school year, which proves you are covered by the Social Action or by the higher education social action, to the Oporto ticket offices and you can get your pass straight away.

For the Coimbra urban trains and Regional trains:

If you already have a card and:

  • keep your discount profile, you keep the same card and have to prove you have the right to the benefit at the start of each school year by handing in the respective documents.
  • the profile has changed, you can ask for a free replacement card by completing the requisition form and delivering the respective documents.

If you do not have a card, you should go to a CP ticket office and show the necessary documents to prove the right to the discount and ask for the card.

For the Lisbon, Oporto and Coimbra urban trains and Regional trains:

If you stop being a beneficiary of the 4_18 or SUB23 card, you can still get a Youth Pass but you have to ask for the new card to be issued
