The Leixões Line is in the Porto Metropolitan Area and connects the cities of Porto and Matosinhos via Gondomar and Maia.

The new service will start on 9 February 2025 and will become the fifth Porto urban train line, joining those of Braga, Guimarães, Marco de Canaveses and Aveiro.

Trains on the Leixões Line stop at Contumil, São Gemil, Hospital de São João, São Mamede de Infesta, Arroteia and Leça do Balio. But the new timetables also include trains from Ovar and Porto Campanhã to Leça do Balio.

Yes, they have STCP bus services and the Metro do Porto yellow line (Hospital de São João station).

Yes, it connects with the  Braga, Guimarães and Marco de Canaveses urban lines at Contumil. At Porto Campanhã, it connects with the Aveiro urban line to Porto São Bento and with CP's Regional and Long Distance Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services.

The direct trains on the Aveiro Line or Contumil Station as a connection to the other urban lines take:

  • Ovar > Hospital de São João - 57 minutes
  • Espinho > Hospital de São João - 33 minutes
  • Vila Nova de Gaia > São João Hospital - 20 minutes
  • Porto Campanhã > Hospital de S. João - 11 minutes
  • Contumil > St John's Hospital - 7 minutes
  • Porto Campanhã > Arroteia - 16 minutes
  • Contumil > Arroteia - 12 minutes

Passengers can use CP tickets and monomodal passes or Andante tickets and intermodal passes on the Porto Urban Train Leixões Line.

You can buy tickets from ticket offices, vending machines or Payshop agents.

If there are no other means of sale is available, tickets will be sold on board, provided that you go to the ticket inspector immediately after boarding.

You can't use the Green Rail Pass on the new service between Porto and Leça do Balio, as the Leixões Line is part of the Porto Metropolitan Area.

You can travel onthe Porto Urban Train routes outside the metropolitan area (Lousado/Braga, Vila das Aves/Guimarães, Paredes/Marco de Canaveses and Paramos/Aveiro).

On the direct urban trains between Ovar and Leça do Balio, the Green Rail Pass is only valid on the Ovar/Paramos route.

The new service on the Leixões Line offers 60 trains on weekdays, 30 each way, with 2 trains per hour each way during the morning and afternoon rush hours. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, there are 34 trains, 17 each way.
There are direct trains between Ovar and Leça do Balio, with no need to change trains at Porto Campanhã, and trains between Porto Campanhã and Leça do Balio.

Porto urban trains are accessible to people with specific needs, such as reduced mobility, including wheelchair users.

The Leixões line stations, except for Contumil have suitable conditions where wheelchair-users travelling to and from the Leixões Line must make their connection at Porto Campanhã Station.

Customers are advised to request the boarding and disembarking assistance service for customers with specific mobility needs, through the Integrated Mobility Service (SIM).
