Transports and Communications Museum

Discover the history of transports and the different means of transport man has invented.

Housed on the banks of the river Douro, beside the historical part of Oporto, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Transports and Communications Museum is housed in the historical News Customs House, one of the cities noblest buildings. It is close to the Ribeira riverside district, the Bourse, the old Luís I and D. Maria bridges, among other monuments.

Apart from the permanent exhibitions, the museum also puts on temporary exhibitions and out outdoor exhibitions with activities for families, groups along with workshops.

The museum is a 15-minute walk from São Bento station. There is also a bus line (No 500) from in front of the station that stops in front of the museum.

Museum opening hours

  • Tuesday to Friday – 10:00 to 13:00 (admission until 12:00) and from 14:00 to 18:00 (admission until 17:00);
  • Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays – 15:00 to 19:00 (admission until 18:00).

Train journey

  • Special €2 return for each person in the group (minimum of 10 people);
  • One free adult return ticket for every 10 members of the group;
  • Journeys any day of the week. Any time at the weekends and most trains during the week except for some rush hour services (contact the group service for further details);
  • You have to book at least five days in advance with the group service;
  • The payment (train journey and museum visit) is made at Oporto urban trains ticket offices.
  • These discounts apply to scheduled Oporto urban trains services.

The price varies depending on the day, time, number of people and the kind of service for a minimum of 10 people;

You have to book and pay at least 10 days in advance.
