Housed on the banks of the river Douro, beside the historical part of Oporto, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Transports and Communications Museum is housed in the historical News Customs House, one of the cities noblest buildings. It is close to the Ribeira riverside district, the Bourse, the old Luís I and D. Maria bridges, among other monuments.
Apart from the permanent exhibitions, the museum also puts on temporary exhibitions and out outdoor exhibitions with activities for families, groups along with workshops.

The museum is a 15-minute walk from São Bento station. There is also a bus line (No 500) from in front of the station that stops in front of the museum.
