Social Responsability - Missions 2024

We support 62 organisations, promoting the fight against poverty and social inclusion, while strengthening ties with communities.

The act of helping connects us to others, creating stronger communities and helping to build a happier society for everyone. It's not just with money - we can help with our time, gestures, ideas and energy.

CP shares some of its projects in the area of Social Responsibility, but it also shares the satisfaction of contributing to the well-being of people and the planet.

In 2024 we supported 62 entities, publicising actions on our internal and external communication channels, carrying out Corporate Volunteering actions and promoting the collection of goods and donations in favour of a number of social institutions and charities.

We would like to highlight the Crescer Association, Terra dos Sonhos, the Portuguese League Against Cancer, Operação Nariz Vermelho, Corações com Coroa, CIG and Banco do Bebé.

Initiatives to support refugee and migrant populations were also held, with outreach activities by the UNHCR, the Portuguese Refugee Centre and the donation of furniture to the Fundão Migration Centre.

Also within the scope of external social responsibility, support was given to CP, climate defence actions and actions to promote the use of public transport among young people (Portugal Chama, Água é Vida, Liga Portuguesa da Natureza, IPDJ).

Support for animal welfare associations also continued, through regular donations of expired medicines.

In terms of the civic dimension, we continued to support the community, contributing to the promotion of citizenship, namely by providing trips for children at risk or socially disadvantaged, elderly people in need, mental health projects and professional mentoring projects and internships.

In 2024, we also reinforced our commitment to Customers with Specific Needs by improving access conditions and our trains. We also organised the 14th Consultative Council with various entities that defend and promote people with disabilities, signed a new agreement for the Counsellor for Customers with Specific Needs and renewed the cooperation protocol with the Salvador Association.

Internally, we recognise the crucial role played by our approximately 3,871 employees, who are our main asset. We are committed on a daily basis to promoting a healthy working environment that favours the well-being and satisfaction of all team members.

To achieve this goal, we have implemented a diverse range of initiatives:

Employee Benefits Agreements

CP has a plan of benefits and advantages for employees, with positive effects on the organisational climate. CP employees and, in most cases, their families, currently enjoy advantages arising from 55 agreements with organisations in various areas and services.

Health

In the area of health, we held another edition of ‘CP Health Days’, aimed at employees, this year with several external speakers (anti-aging professionals, meditation, active ageing) and employee testimonies, broadening the range of topics covered. There were also information sessions, cardiovascular screenings and optical screenings in partnership with pharmacies and opticians.

Environment

We also marked World Environment Day by reinforcing our commitment to sustainable management with a competition, rewarding the employees who have the most knowledge about recycling.

Holiday camp

To help reconcile professional and personal life, CP once again organised a holiday camp for its employees' children, with 94 kids and young people taking part.

Corporate Volunteering

The Corporate Volunteering Programme, launched in October 2024, has 113 employees signed up and a plan of actions has been defined for 2025 in various areas of intervention.

Solidarity Christmas

As has become tradition at CP, a Christmas tree competition was once again held among its employees, this year celebrating solidarity. The challenge consisted of decorating the trees with items alluding to the chosen cause and collecting goods to give to the cause:

  • 870kg of food
  • 1265 hygiene and cleaning products
  • 1143 items of clothing and footwear
  • 300 toys
  • 135kg of animal products
