Joint Statement of CP and IP - Infraestruturas de Portugal

Extreme temperatures affect the rail traffic in Portugal

The extreme temperatures that have been felt in Portugal over the last few days are severely affecting the rail traffic. The effects of this situation influence both the railways – causing the need to continuously interfere in several regions of the country to correct signalling problems – and the trains, whose cooling capacity is affected.

Such circumstances have led to delays – particularly on long-distance trains – which, together with the temperatures felt inside the vehicles, cause high levels of discomfort to the passengers who travel on our trains.

Infraestruturas de Portugal has permanent teams across the country which are making every effort to solve infrastructure problems.

CP - Comboios de Portugal has chosen to cancel the sale of tickets for some Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains, particularly those travelling in regions that have shown higher inside temperatures, managing the levels of occupancy and, therefore, minimizing the discomfort during the journey.

IP and CP deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused and they will continue to make every effort to proceed with the passenger transport services with the least possible discomfort, in the context of these exceptional circumstances.
