Regional Train Breakdown – January 31, 2019

Yesterday, on January 31, the train leaving Oporto-Campanhã at 20h15 and scheduled to arrive in Valença at 22h20 stopped near Afife, due to a breakdown. CP provided a replacement service for the 15 passengers on board, in taxis.

This event was due to a fracture of the transmission shaft between the diesel engine and the transmission box, which would have caused a breakage of one of the diesel engine supports.

The involved unit was towed by a rescue train in the morning and is being sent to the Contumil workshop, where the technical teams of CP and EMEF will carry out the technical analysis required to determine the circumstances and causes of the breakdown, as well as possible preventive and corrective measures that may be deemed necessary.
