CP carried 122 million passengers in 2017

CP - Comboios de Portugal E.P.E. ended 2017 with a total of 122 million passengers carried and €250 million of traffic revenue.

Compared with the previous year, CP trains carried another 7.1 million passengers and revenues rose by €19.6 million, increases of 6.3% and 8.5%, respectively.

Passenger numbers were up across the company as shown below:

  • Alfa Pendular – 2.196 million passengers (+5.8%)
  • Intercidades – 3.941 million passengers (+6.1%)
  • Urbanos de Lisboa – 83 million passengers (+7.3%)
  • Urbanos do Porto – 21.6 million passengers (+3.8%)
  • Regional – 11.05 million passengers (+3.7%)
  • International – 251,000 passengers (+7.3%)


Ever since CP managed to invert the downward trend in passenger numbers in 2013, passenger numbers have been growing every year confirming that many thousands of citizens choose to travel by train following the sales push the company has been making.
