CP and EMEF merger approved by the Council of Ministers

In today’s Council of Ministers meeting the Decree-law confirming the merger of CP -  Comboios de Portugal and EMEF was approved. This is a merger by incorporation of EMEF into CP, with the parent company once again providing maintenance and repair of rolling stock in an operation that will allow internal synergies and strengthen the spirit of the Group’s employees.

Internally, the Company will reorganize its structure, reinforcing operational and functional capacity, integrating the management of transport and maintenance activities of rolling stock, with gains in quality, efficiency and rationality, better allocation of resources and competencies, in a structure that is simultaneously more agile and robust.

The President of CP, Mr. Nuno Freitas, believes that ‘After the signing the Public Service Agreement, held on November 28, this merger constitutes one of the most important stages of CP’s strategic plan, which aims to provide the Company with the means and conditions to provide a quality rail service to Portuguese citizens’.
