Douro historical train 2025
Due to limitations in the railway infrastructure announced by IP - Infraestruturas de Portugal, the Douro 2025 Historical Train will initially run with a historic locomotive from the 1960s, from the 1401-1467 series, replacing the CP 0186 steam locomotive.
This change is due to the Douro Line modernisation project, where some load restrictions have been identified on bridges located on the Régua-Pocinho section, limiting the circulation of the steam locomotive.
CP is making every effort to ensure that the steam locomotive can return to the Régua-Pocinho section as soon as possible, in complete safety.
Due to this situation, and given the importance of the Douro Historical Train in promoting the region, local products, and the national rail tourism service, CP has decided to maintain the 2025 season for this tourist product, albeit with some adjustments.
The Douro Historical Train will return to the rails on 7 June, with the 2025 season running until October. Trips will take place on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as some Wednesdays, from July to September. On a route along the Douro River, the 36 kilometres between the stations of Régua and Tua (round trip, with a stop in Pinhão) will be covered in a unique journey aboard historic carriages from the early 20th century, transporting passengers to another era, with views of the Alto Douro Wine Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The programme begins at 3 p.m. at the Régua station, to the sound of traditional regional music, with departure scheduled for 3:30 p.m., bound for Tua. During the trip, passengers can enjoy a glass of Port and sample some regional products, providing a true immersion in the culture of the Douro region.
The train is scheduled to arrive in Tua at 4.39 p.m., where local producers will be selling and offering tastings of regional products.
At 5.07 p.m., the train will begin its return journey to Régua. At the Pinhão stop, you can admire the station's iconic tile panels and visit a Wine House, where you can buy wines, jams and other typical regional flavours. Arrival in Régua is scheduled for 6.25 p.m.
Prices are €59 per adult and €30 per child, with special prices for groups. For more information and reservations, visit www.cp.pt.
