Free passes for pupils and students

Sub 18+TP e Estudante Sub 23+TP

From 1 January 2024, students aged 4 up to and including 23 can get a free pass for use on CP urban trains (Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon) and regional services.
This also applies to students up to the age of 24 on integrated study programmes, such as Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.
Although free of charge, the pass for young students must be topped-up every month.

CP Services: Lisbon urban trains | Porto urban trains | Coimbra urban trains | Regional and InterRegional

  • Pupils aged 4 to 18 (until the last day of the month in which they turn 19).
  • Students aged 19 to 23 (until the last day of the month in which they turn 24).
  • Higher education students up to and including the age of 24, attending courses with an integrated study cycle, namely Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

New users must apply for a card, paying the cost of the card and presenting the following documents:

From 4 to 18 years old

  • 1 original colour passport photo.
  • Presentation of identification document: Identity Card/Citizen Card, Passport or Residence Permit.
  • Fill in the Card Application Form.
  • They are exempt from presenting a declaration of enrolment at a school.


19 to 24 year olds

  • Proof of enrolment at a national school, valid for the current academic year
  • 1 original colour passport photo.
  • Presentation of identification document: Identity Card/Citizen Card, Passport or Residence Permit.
  • Filling in the Card Application Form.


Each young person can only apply for one free pass and cannot benefit from more than one pass at the same time:

  • a Metropolitan Area;
  • an Intermunicipal Community;
  • a Metropolitan Area adjoining an Intermunicipal Community or two adjoining Intermunicipal Communities, proving that you live and study in neighbouring regions. Proof of residence can be obtained from the Tax Authority website.

Lisbon and Porto urban trains - Go to the points of sale.

Regional, InterRegional and Coimbra urban trains - print out and fill in the form before going to the point of sale.

All documents must be handed in, duly completed, at the following locations:

Lisbon Urban Trains

  • To request the card, go to a CP ticket office on Lisbon's urban trains with the necessary documentation.
  • Once the documents have been submitted, the card will be issued within 10 working days.
  • For renewals and changes to the card's profile, go to the Rossio or Cais do Sodré Customer Assistance Office

Porto Urban Trains

  • Go to a CP ticket office.
  • Once the documents have been handed in, the card will be issued.


Coimbra Urban and Regional Trains

  • Go to a CP ticket office.
  • Once the documents have been handed in, the card will be issued within 10 working days.

The card will be valid for a maximum of 4 years, until the end of the month in which you turn 19 (if you are a student up to and including the age of 18) or 24 (if you are a higher education student).

To have access to the free Under 18+TP / Under 23+TP Student monthly pass, you must top it up at a CP ticket office, upon presentation of the corresponding card.

Every year, from the start of the new school year, beneficiaries of the free Under 23+TP Student ticket must present a new proof of enrolment at a national educational unit in order to renew their right to the free ticket.

Lisbon Urban Trains:

  • If you continue to be a beneficiary, you must renew your card profile at the Customer Service Offices located in Rossio or Cais do Sodré stations, by submitting proof of enrolment in an educational unit.

Porto urban trains:

  • If you continue to be a beneficiary, renewal of the card profile must be carried out at a station selling Urbanos do Porto products, by handing in proof of enrolment at an education unit.
  • If there is a change of profile, the Card will be updated upon delivery of the relevant supporting documents.

Coimbra Urban and Regional Trains:

  • If you continue to be a beneficiary, the renewal of the card profile must be carried out at a CP ticket office, by handing in proof of enrolment in an education unit.
  • If there is a change of profile, the Card will be updated by handing in the relevant supporting documents.

If you no longer benefit from the free student pass (Under 18+TP / Student Under 23+TP), you can get a Youth Pass by applying for a new card.
