The Eurail Pass is an international season ticket aimed at people who live outside Europe the Russian Federation or Turkey.

The range of tickets includes the Eurail Global Pass, the Eurail Select Pass, the Eurail Regional Pass and the Eurail National Pass.

Eurail Global Pass

Allows you to travel on networks in 21 European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Norway, Chec Republic, Romenia, Sweden Switzerland and on the sea crossings between Finland and Sweden and between Greece and Italy.

The ticket can be purchased for:

1) 15 days, 21 days, 1 month, 2 months or 3 months consecutively;
2) 10 and15 days in a 2 month period.

There are various different kinds of ticket available:

• Eurail Global Pass Adult;
• Eurail Global Pass Saver Adult: for groups of  2 to 5 people;
• Eurail Global Pass Youth: for 2nd class travel for people under 26 years old.

Children under 4 travel for free so long as they do not occupy a seat. Children under 12 pay half price.

Eurail Select Pass
This ticket is valid in three, four or five countries from the Eurail Pass list plus Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro so long as the counties have a common border.
There are several different formats:

• Eurail Select Pass Adult;
• Eurail Select Pass Saver: for groups of  2 to 5 people;
• Eurail Select Pass Youth: for 2nd class travel for people under 26 years old.

Children under 4 travel for free so long as they do not occupy a seat. Children under 12 pay half price.

The following groups of countries count as just one country:

• Belgium/Holland/Luxembourg - Benelux;
• Bulgaria/Montenegro/Serbia;
• Croatia/Slovenia.

Eurail Regional Pass

This ticket is valid for two countries. E.G.: Eurail Portugal - Spain Pass

The ticket can be purchased for:

1) 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or10 days in a 2-month period.

It is available in the following formats:

• Eurail Portugal - Spain Pass Adult;
• Eurail Portugal - Spain Pass Saver: for groups of  2 to 5 people

Children under 4 travel for free so long as they do not occupy a seat. Children under 12 pay half price.

This ticket is only sold outside Europe.

Eurail National Pass

This ticket is only valid for one country. E.G.: Eurail Portugal Pass. Only the Eurail Portugal Pass can be bought in Portugal.

This ticket can be bought for:

1) 3, 4 or6 days in a one-month period.

The ticket is available in the following formats:

• Eurail Portugal Pass Adult;
• Eurail Portugal Pass Child: children of 4 to 11 years old inclusive pay half price.

Children under 4 travel for free so long as they do not occupy a seat. 

The ticket lets you travel on the Portuguese Railway trains but you will have to pay a seat reservation fee on trains that require you to book a seat:

1) Alfa Pendular (AP);
2) Intercidades (IC);
3) Sud Expresso and
4) Lusitânia Comboio Hotel.

The Railplus card can offer up to 25% off international ticket priceson most European rail networks.

The card is valid for a year and there are two age groups: 

• Junior: for youngsters from 12 to 26 years old
• Senior: for adults of 60 or over

Price of card - 20 €

The Railplus card is aimed at people who travel frequently, but before buying the card you should check to see if it is really advantageous for the journeys you take since dome of the trains you use may not offer reductions for this card or may offer reductions even without the card.

This is the case with the Sud Expresso and Lusitânia Train Hotel which already offer25% off to these age groups without having to buy the card and the TGV in France that does not accept the card for discounts.

Conditions

• The card is personal and inalienable and must be shown to the inspectors on request.
• If you do not, or cannot, show a valid Railplus card you will be considered as not having a valid ticket.

Where can I buy a ticket?

The ticket can be purchased from one of the CP International Ticket Sales Points . They can also be bought in any of the following ststions:

Minho Line

• Valença
• Viana do Castelo
• Barcelos

Algarve Line

• Portimão

Any groups, of 6 or more, are granted international reductions that vary from country to country, except for Spain.
