Starting from Livração, the Tâmega line, running along side the river Douro, was only started in March 1905 by the Minho e Douro State Railways. -
The first stretch, from Livração to Amarante, was opened on 20 March 1909; the second, from Amarante to Gatão, on 23 October 1921; the third, from Gatão to Chapa, opened on 22 June 1926. -
CP rented the line from the State Railways in 1927 and sublet the Tâmega one to the Caminhos de Ferro do Norte de Portugal, which took the train up to Celorico de Basto, on 20 March 1932. -
The line was taken over by CP in 1947 and the train finally arrived at Arco de Baúlhe on 15 January 1949. Contact: Education Service FMNF Tel.: 249130375 Fax: 211021773 E-mail: se@fmnf.pt www.fundacaomuseuferroviario.org.pt |
