Estação de Pinhão |

|
A parish belonging to the county of Alijó, Pinhão is situated on the mouth of River Pinhão. In the past it was a small riverside place - with fishermen shacks who fished and transported people, animals and merchandise to the opposite banks of the Rivers Douro and Pinhão - and it was granted the statute of Centro Económico Geográfico da Região Demarcada do Vinho do Porto (Economical and Geographical Centre of the Demarcated Region of the Port Wine) in the 19th century.
The wine was transported to Vila Nova de Gaia on rabelo boats, and the village served as an entrepôt between the city and the production zone of fine wines. The Railway Station (integrated in the Douro Line that goes from Oporto to Pocinho) also dates back to these times. It is one of the most beautiful stations in the country with azulejo-decorated façades featuring workers in the vineyards and sceneries that can be seen from the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos (belevdere), on Pinhão?s riverside.
